Hello!

Well, I think we might actually have a full week of school! The kids may not be excited, but I am absolutely looking forward to getting "back on track."

P. 1,4: Today we began by practicing with semicolons for writing using sentence variety. Students learned the 3 major rules of using a semicolon. The good news is that semicolons are so easy to use, yet they make a 6th grader writer look so impressive! After that, we did a very literal activity...students actually drew pictures of a toolbox, and then wrote all the writing strategies (tools) that we they have been learning and using. This helps them visualize reaching into a toolbox and pulling out strategies that work.
H/W: Begin your acuity activities! Nine activities due on Fri. Feb 28. Every student wrote down the skills they were to use as focus activities. These are their low scoring skills that need practice.

Students also went into their Persuasion books and analyzed "Hyla Brook," keeping the themes of "change" in mind. We pulled out evidence to support the theme.

P. 2,6: Class started with a quick Wordmaster review session, and then students took the Wordmaster II analogy test. After grading the test, they practiced with semicolons for writing using sentence variety. Students learned the 3 major rules of using a semicolon. The good news is that semicolons are so easy to use, yet they make a 6th grader writer look so impressive.
