So excited to see the DMS production of Mulan tonight! Many of our most talented students are in this production, and they have been working very hard. I know it will be outstanding!
P. 1,4: After lateral thinking puzzles (our Friday fun), We launched into a mini lesson on the use of semicolons. While grading writing prompts, I noticed an overuse of short, simple sentences. So,
compound sentences and semicolons should help students become writers who know and use sentence variety. After that, our new book, Jackie's Nine, was introduced. The author is Sharon Robinson, Jackie Robinson's daughter. It is a compilation of short stories about the people who display the virtues her dad exemplified; it is an inspirational and rich text. Students will not keep the book; it is being used as a class set.
H/W: Work on your acuity activities!
P. 5: After lateral thinking puzzles (our Friday fun), We launched into a minilesson on the use of semicolons. While grading writing prompts, I noticed an overuse of short, simple sentences. So, compound sentences and semicolons should help students become more writers who know and use sentence variety. We went back into out Persuasion books and shared thoughts and group responses about "Change" that we see around us. Students created and analyzed support for the generalizations about change.

P. 2,6: After lateral thinking puzzles (our Friday fun), We launched into a minilesson on the use of semicolons. While grading writing prompts, I noticed an overuse of short, simple sentences. So, compound sentences and semicolons should help students become more writers who know and use sentence variety.
After that, student groups generated analogies using Wordmaster words. The groups tries to stump the class
by writing thoughtful word relationships. They also had to defend the type of analogy written.
H/W: Wordmaster test on Monday (the real thing...not one of my quizzes!) Don't forget Hassaan's studystack with all 50 words. go to studystack.com and search DMS Wordmasters I & II. Review the 16 analogy types from one of your practice sheets!
Enjoy the weekend!
